Soccer star Séguin-Gauthier at Francophone Games in Niger

Gabriel Séguin-Gauthier of Chateauguay will be among seven Quebec players on the Canadian national soccer team that will compete in the Francophone Games in Niger Dec. 7-17.

Other Quebecers on the squad are Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault of Ile Bizard, Pierre-Rudolph Mayard of Laval, Massimo Di Iola of St. Leonard, Nicolas Suter of Brossard, and Cristian Nunez and Hector Contreras of Montreal.

At the helm of the team is another Queebcer, Rudy Doliscat, technical assistant to the Quebec Soccer Federation. An RDS analyst for Montreal Impact soccer games, Doliscat is also in charge of the National Centre of High Performances of Quebec. Referee Hu Liu of Ste-Anne de Bellevue has been chosen to do some officiating in the event.

Canada has been placed in Group C for the soccer championships with Cameroon, the Ivory Coast and host Niger. Group A clubs are France, Haiti, Mali and Burkina Faso. In Group B are Morocco, Senegal, Lithuania and the Congo. Canada opens its tournament schedule on Dec. 5 against Cameroon. Finals are slated for Dec. 17.
